[ That's putting it lightly. It was humbling really, to have Aidan Clayce, Riley Falner, Alistair Mordechai, Kasumi Aoi, Tohru and Asami Fukuzawa thank him for doing for you what they said they could not. What could he say to that, really? These people have known you for much longer than he has.

He's leaning his shoulder against yours after that pause. ] It was also very humbling.

[And he's putting his head against yours as he looks off towards the Pool.]

Were you expecting them to string you up over a slow fire?

[Because... they kind of do that. Metaphorically, of course, but the feeling's about the same.]

[ That's him turning his head and pressing his nose against the side of yours. ]

I think that there was a point where they were starting on that, and then they changed directions and opened fire on Alistair.

[Chuckling now, because he can see that happening. It feels oddly like 2012, but in a very good way.]

They might have felt sorry for you.

[ He's pretty sure it was because the Seer had facepalmed so much and it was hard to let that go. ]

You think? [ He's grinning at you now, in that way that shows that he's so good with this. Besides. It's always so good to see you smiling. He'd do anything to make sure that you do that a lot more if he could.

He's looking back towards the Dragon's Pool now though. ]

I didn't expect the thank you. [ That's said softly. It really had been unexpected. As far as he's concerned: he loves you, he wants to do everything in his power to make you happy while you two have the time that you have together. He doesn't need to be thanked for it. But he gets what they all meant. ]

[He can say that with confidence now, and without a single hint of sarcasm or irritation. He's good: he's better than he's ever been. And things are only looking up from here, at least on the personal front.]

[ Because the fight isn't over. Amadeus is still out there, and if anything, this last engagement has confirmed that old monsters don't die as easily as most people hope. But a win is a win. Valkyrie had been that shadow looming in the back, the real shape and face hidden just enough from sight. Things can be better now, amends can be made, or if that conspiracy can't be made whole again, then he'll be content to let people like Brig, like his mother and Lincoln Hawke carry on the memory of a better what-could-have-been.

[Those words never seem to lose meaning between the two of you, no matter how many times it's been said. It's rather different from how, with many of the others he has been with, speaking of how much one party loved the other just wasn't part of the deal, or somehow felt wrong.

You're a bit of an exception to many rules, though, aren't you?]

[ He'll keep on saying those words as often as he can, because no matter how many times he says it, the weight and value of them won't lessen in the least. Because can't see that happening at all. ]

TWENTY, okay no, will not think on that right now, you'll be twenty-one day after tomorrow anyway ) if you have to count the twenty-eight life cycles you'd lived before this. But who cares? He feels younger than he is when he's with you, and maybe, just maybe -- it's the same on your end.

Give him a bit. It's a little hard to look at you right now, since it has occurred to him, yet again, that you've kind of saved his life, and he is kind of really gone on you, and yet the both of you won't have nearly as much time together as he would have liked.]

Those are his hands coming up to frame your face and tip your eyes up to his. He's not going to force it, not if you don't want to -- because then he's going to bend his knees a little so that he can peer at you instead. ]

He won't press. He wants to have faith that one of these days, maybe when things slow down a little ( shooting for the moon, but what the heck, right? ) you'll start voicing your thoughts to him voluntarily.

He has an idea what this could be about. But he doesn't want to think too hard along those lines either. The time you have with each other is precious -- and could be put to better use outside of worrying. It's a work-in-progress though, because he has his own angst about the limited Time that you two have, but he doesn't want a repeat of the lead-up to Ireland. ]

[That's coming out a little too soft and a touch helpless. He's smiling, though, and while it's a funny sort of gesture, it isn't entirely broken.]

[ And he's drawing you back into his arms, right up against his body, mouth slanting over yours. He's going to kiss you for a little longer than he normally would, but without the heat that would usually push you both to hightail it for a private space. Just a long and heartfelt kiss that echoes the words you've given him.

When he breaks off though, there's a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. ]

[Why wouldn't he be? You've both come a long way, even if some people - other practical immortals included - might scoff at it "simply being a matter of months".
