Waking the Dead 2.0 || May 16, Shin Yamatai || Coming Home.

[He had been... vague, whenever they had asked him exactly where they were going. Lenneth had known the moment he had oh-so-casually mentioned a detour now that the Hounds were done with their route. It had been in her eyes.
At least she is loyal. At least she respected him enough to say nothing.
He leads the War Hounds through a forest in the far reaches of the island, and they end up stepping out to a waterfall. A little further down, along the river, there's a beautiful house there. It's been restored to its former glory, properly furnished, renovated and modernized wherever it had to be. There's a garage, for one.
He takes just one moment out take the sight of it in, and try not to think of the ghosts. It never gets easier, coming back here, and yet...
Turning to them with a smile now.]
So. This was my old house. I think we can take a break here for now.
[OOC Notes:
+ The Shinta House is your typical traditional Japanese home from like, centuries back - furniture is all old and traditional. Yes, there are photos from lots of different life times here and there; if you want deets, lemme know. There's a garden out back, a small training hall, and a path into the forest that actually leads to the graves of his parents.
+ Feel free to make your own threads if you guys want to explore on your own and talk to each other! You're also welcome to tag Hikaru's thread, which I've put down there just because.]

[How long HAS it been? He doesn't really count anymore.
And he's always and ever willing to answer questions if it comes from the right source. Brianna's in that department, so.]
About one thousand, five hundred years now? Give or take. [Leaning back against the side of the table now, and going for his cigarettes.] I die and reincarnate immediately, and eventually remember everything all over again.

You're... ah... You're... Oh. You're serious. [ Her face melts away to an "oops"-face. ]
I can't imagine what that would be like.
[ She looks around again. Too many things to take in with just one sweep of the room. ]
You must be proud of everything you've achieved, then? Bet you outranked everyone in every batch you've ever been in.
no subject
No, not always. Just most of the time.
[He's being modest. Really.
Okay, he's TRYING to be.]
There's no point in living a long time if you're not going to try everything at least once, right?

[ She picks up a few medals, but lays them down again before asking: ]
It's okay if I touch some stuff, right? Just wanna see what my Daddy's been up to for the past uh, thousand years.

[Going into the army (several armies), going gangster (several times), studying just because he can... yeah.]

She's studying the engravings, running her thumb through Hikaru's name. ]
Nahh... [ She says that in a distracted tone. ]

Got that one during World War II. I was part of the Emperor's Imperial Army.
no subject
Wow, they must have been really lucky to have you serve them.
[ She wonders then, how Hikaru looked like. How handsome he must have looked in uniform, how he was a sight to behold in battle, how he would kick back and probably socialize with other officers and soldiers. A proud smile graces her face. ]

[The Emperor had not listened to their warnings. The Keepers of the Vigil had not approved of it in the slightest.
...They had not been very happy about America either, but. Well. People.]
Sometimes, people have to learn the hard way.

I wonder how it must have been like to be in the Philippines when that happened. I've read up on that though, so I kind of have an idea. But it's still different from learning about it, I guess.
[ Speaking of reading... ]
Actually, [ and she's a bit embarrassed ] I didn't really read up on well... you... so this is kind of overwhelming.
[ She then proceeds to examine further the other things lying around. ]

[Blinks. Riiiiight, she hadn't been a part of that whole assignment thing.]
Sorry. I guess this means that I owe you a lot of stories.
no subject
Yeaaah, you bet. [ But she's laughing timidly. ]
I'm kidding, of course. You don't have to. I can basically look at all of the stuff here one by one and I can already construct a few stories for myself.
no subject
[Teasingly. He can only wonder over what she's going to end up thinking. This is Brianna, after all.]
no subject
[ Long pause, because she's going through a few things on the table and looking around the walls. ]
Uhm... You're... Super... Smart? And... You've had too much free time in the past...? You... Like... Books?
[ She sighs and faces Hikaru, then laughs. ]
Okay, no. I give up.
no subject
Well, you WERE right on those parts.
no subject
But anyone could have guessed that! I wanna be special. [ Pout pout pout. ]
no subject
You already are, regardless of what you know about me. I can tell you whatever you like to know, really.
no subject
[ Kyaaa~
She smiles at him, but looks down. Certain things have been bugging her... Should she...? ]
What's it like, Daddy? Being that strong and smart and everything?
no subject
[Sigh. Dying.]
Still, it can also get pretty lonely.
INSIDES CRYING HUHUHU
And okay, that trade-off part she must have known, but she doesn't want to press. ]
I can imagine, yeah. [ Then she leans her head on Hikaru, because she is an affectionate puppy. ]
I'll make sure you won't feel as lonely for as long as I can.
:'D
She's never going to see the way he hesitates, hand hovering just so, before reaching down to smooth her hair out.]
I know you will.
[The best ones always did, even when they inevitably ended up going ahead.]
