[This one disappears for about thirty minutes, and returns as quietly as he left with two briefcases. He doesn't explain where he went, but from how he ducks into Hikaru's room for about fifteen minutes after that, it can probably be inferred that he fetched a few things from Falner.

Looks like he'll be staying at the Tower while he has taken control of his Brother's body. You're usually going to spot him hovering around, smoking, working through a glass of rum, eyes crimson-ringed and glowing oddly in all lights (or lack thereof) watching... who knows what he's watching? And that suit he's wearing - three-piece, black, pin-striped, with ghostly faces and smoke occasionally moving over the "fabric" - is pretty nice, creepiness aside.

Please excuse him if you find him suddenly popping in on you. It's just what he does.]

Minor on board, man. Root beer or various juices and sodas for me.

[ The look on his face makes Kaz full-stop. It looks so much like Hikaru that his first instinct was to bump his head on his shoulders. He catches himself and shakes it off. ]

Yeah, a work in progress... That's me, down to a tee. But then, most people are, even as they age.

It's not fun getting shot in your stomach. [ ...She could have died, seriously. ] Which made me think. Do you think we could get a dress that doubles as armor? [ It makes sense. ]

[ She just-- It's overwhelming, whatever this feeling is. She can't explain it, but... it hurts, and yet she's happy. She's fine, but she feels like crying. (She doesn't; she almost does, but she keeps herself together.)

It's like what she told Death: It's difficult to explain human emotion.

A few deep breaths and a heartbeat, and then she smiles up at Brigade. Sincere. Warm. Full of words she can't even say. ]

[ You'll note the downward turn of his gaze when you mention being shot. That was his call, and while he's settled enough about how everything turned out in the end, it's a mistake he won't make again. ]

Well, Hikaru did mention earlier that Kasumi does that with her clothes, right?

[ He's leaning his head in one hand, elbow braced on the mattress. ]

And don't most of the Whisperers go around in geisha attire?

I am not wearing Geisha attire. It takes too long to wear, and the make up is too much.

Potentially, they are. Very few of your kind realize just how much self-determination they actually possess.

[ It's all right. She doesn't have to say anything. Her smile -- the warmth behind it -- are more than enough for Brig. He's happy that she's okay.

He smiles back at her, tips his beer in salute, bumps her playfully on the arm with his own, and looks back out at the cityscape, legs still dangling.

What was that in that old movie? Days like these are far too rare to cheapen with heavy handed words.

If Yulia wants to talk, he'll wait for her. But he's more than content to just sit in the quiet with her. A peaceful, clear quiet. ]

[ And this one's going to chuckle a bit. ]

No, I don't think I can see you in geisha attire.

But maybe plainclothes can be turned into armor? I mean, the Rhiannon suits look, for all intents and purposes, like business suits. And I've rarely ever seen the likes of Jessie out of his suit.

[Taning just smiles at that, agreeing internally. Hubris is a subjective concept anyway. Maybe Brig is even right. Maybe Brig is right precisely because he can see the problem from a non-mage perspective.

Ah well.

He will light up with you, Brig, because heavy.]

At least, I guess, this fight is a lot more important. It's no longer some petty world leader kicking off a war for some petty reason.

Then I do not find it difficult. People are born, people live, and people die. That is how things must go.

Yeah, [ He remembers some soldiers who would just freeze on the middle of the field. Some who'd just take their own lives. It's heavy in the chest and it's not the smoke. He tries to blow the feeling out. It's still there ] giving up is easy.

[ A short pause and he adds ] I'd like to believe people [ finite beings ] are good-natured enough though, to help pull their fellows up when they think they're at their ropes end.
