[ So he turns up at the place some thirty minutes early. After taking a quick look around, he's heading straight for the bar. He's dressed well, as per usual.

[Darcy meanwhile is only about five minutes early for their meeting. She was an on time but never early sort of girl.

She spotted him at the bar and made her way over, a smile on her lips.]

Hope you weren't waiting too long.

[ He's gotten a drink for himself by then, and smoked through some sticks. Smiling back at her when she comes around. ]

No, not really. I was enjoying the scenery. What can I get for you?

[ First round's on him. ]

[She doesn't hesitate with her answer as she takes her seat. Looking at him she arches a brow, looking pretty amused.]

Scenery huh? So you were checking people out? Anyone worth noting?

[ Taking a moment to put in that order for her, then. ]

It's less about checking other people out, and more about checking out what they're doing. But no, nothing interesting has happened yet.

[She shrugs as she settles on to her seat. She glances around the bar before her gaze shifts back to him. She smirks.]

That's alright. I'm sure I'll be plenty entertained.

[ Chuckling. ]

Should I be worried now?

Nah. You'll know when you need to worry.

[Her drink arrives and she takes a sip.]

So. Old guy. Great skin. How's that work, exactly?

Well, a lot of supernaturals tend to be long lived by merit of their nature. I'm a bit of a special case.

[ Pausing there, to thank the bartender once their drinks come. ]

The stipulations of the Bargain that I struck with the entity that shares my body with me has me dying and coming back with all of my previous memories intact in near endless repeat.

[She nods along, listening more intently than maybe her casual demeanor lets on.]

So your soul is immortal, but not your body? It's a whole reincarnation deal?

Yes, only with a really bad modification. The way reincarnation is supposed to work is that a soul gets a fresh start: no solid recollection of their past life, and a "totally new" identity, which more often than not includes a shift in biological sex or gender. You're not supposed to come back as you were the last time. There are consequences to that.

What sort of consequences?

Suffering the brunt of the full karmic weight that comes with obliterating every possibility attached to each fresh reincarnation that you could have been living.

[Her eyes narrow slightly as she considers just what exactly he's saying. Karma and reincarnation, while a perfectly valid viewpoint, wasn't something she'd put too much focus on back home.]

So...really bad then.

Pretty much. Look at it this way... it's like the universe has decided that I've already murdered 1,936 people. People who led full lives: they met other people, and did things that affected the world in small or big ways. People who could have had families of their own.

Yikes. [She paused and took a sip of her drink. She needed it after that little bomb.]

So that's the payment for whatever agreement it was you made?

Yeah.

[ Taking a sip on his end too. ]

Being around this long has let me do a lot of things, and given me experiences that I would have never had otherwise. But nothing can change the fact that, at the end of it all, it shouldn't have happened this way.

It's... it's hard to say. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't.

[ Shrug. ]

I guess it's something I constantly struggle with.

[ Blinking a moment, and then chuckling. ]
