I've talked to Melinda once or twice. If you want my blunt assessment... she's pretty far gone. Shit's happened in her world, and she can't seem to see past that.

Avoid her, just to be safe. As things stand, she knows I'm a hunter. What she DOESN'T know is what I can do. Decided that it'd be better if I didn't risk it.

[She's grateful that he doesn't try to sugar coat it. She honestly wasn't in the mood - not when her pulse was pounding in her ears and she was having a hard time thinking straight and staying reasonable.]

Because she's the only one who's had a rough life in her world.

There are a lot of people here who won't stand for that. Myself included.

[ She's probably gotten this impression about Hikaru before, that he'll do just about anything for the people he considers his friends or his family. And you're definitely a friend to him. ]

I hope it doesn’t come to that. That it’s all just a bunch of talk coming out of a place of fear and hate for something that’s not even here. At least, it didn’t seem like there was anyone else here from her world.

[There was a reason she’d reached out to him after that message - knowing she could trust him to be honest with her and give her the information she needed to hear.]

I’m heading over to a friend’s. Didn’t feel like sitting alone in my apartment.
